Easter Bunny Nightmare

Saturday night I went out to a local haunted house, NecroPlanet, to photography a team of paranormal investigators checking the place out. I didn’t see any ghosts or spectres, but I saw what has to be one of the creepiest rabbits since Donnie Darko.

Sunlight

Every evening the sunset hits a window in my living room just so. And my roommate has this old glass decanter that sits on the coffee table. The light hits only the the top of the decanter but its a pretty sight none the less.

Two Roads

Due to the flooding that occurred in Nebraska, Iowa and northern Missouri earlier this year, I had to take a detour when I drove up to Omaha the last weekend of August for a wedding. Interstate 29 was shut down from Rock Port, Mo. to around where Highway 34 meets up with it in Iowa.

I ended up taking a different road on my way back to Columbia than I did when I drove up to Omaha. On the way up I took I-29 to Rock Port then got onto Highway 136 going east until I met up with Highway 59 North until I reached Highway 34, taking that back to I-29. Coming back to Columbia, I simply took Highway 34 to Highway 275 and followed that all the way back to Rock Port.

As much as I like driving interstates, it was a nice change of scenery and only added about a half hour to my usual drive time.

I-29 Northbound just before Rock Port, Mo.

Along Highway 59 in Iowa I came across a good sized wind farm.

A flooded farm just outside of Council Bluffs, Ia. along I-29.

A panoramic overlooking Rock Port, Mo. Essentially everything west of the interstate was covered by water.

Of course I saw a whole lot of this stuff both ways.

Morning Rain

Hopped in my car Wednesday morning and found the leftovers from a late night/early morning rain still on my windshield.

Easter Traditions

I had the chance to take part in my friends’…unique Easter tradition.

Easter Egg Roulette.
The game is simple. Take bunch of eggs and hard boil them, save for the number of people playing minus one. Mix the boiled and raw eggs together, dye them up, and then take turns smashing the eggs on your forehead. The last one without egg on their face, literally, win.
My fellow rookie to the game, Nicole, falls victim to a raw egg.
Jarrod regrets saying “Even if you lose, you win,” after smashing a raw egg on his head.

Foggy Night

2:40 am, East Nifong Blvd, Columbia, Mo.

Sometimes, you just gotta look up

As I was leaving work today, I heard the unmistakable sound of a helicopter flying overhead. In Columbia, this usually isn’t anything special. A Life Flight crew works out of University Hospital and is always coming and going, saving lives and such.

Still I couldn’t help but look up. Instead of the usual rounded outline of the Life Flight helicopter, I saw the unmistakable, more boxy, outline of an Apache attack helicopter. The Apache flew circles over Columbia for about 30 minutes or so, moving from the south on north. It was likely out there long, but that’s how long it was in the air, while I was outside, until it made a b-line south.

I snapped a few frames of it then headed back inside to mention it to one of the editors at the Tribune to see if they’d heard anything about it. By the time I’d gotten home around 4, Justin had found the reason. The Columbia Aeronautics and Space Association is holding a little shin dig on Saturday which the Apache will be apart of.

Hello, photo op!

From the Archives

Dug up a few photos while going through my archives for the rebuild of the site. Some of these go way back to before I had any real idea of what I was doing with a camera.
